Miguel Layun signs with Villarreal until 2021
This Wednesday, July 11, 2018, La Liga side Villarreal officially announced the signing of Miguel Layun from FC Porto. The deal is set for three seasons as his contract with the Spanish team is set to expire in June of 2021.
The 30-year-old most recently played with Sevilla on a loan deal from FC Porto and did look solid in the playing time he received in Spain. Layun was a consistent starter for the Mexico national team in the 2018 FIFA World Cup and will be looking to do the same with his new team.
The Veracruz native can play as a fullback on either side as well as a midfielder and even out on the wings. The versatility he brings to the table is a big asset and can win him a lot more minutes on the pitch with his new coach Javier Calleja.

Villarreal finished fifth in La Liga with 61 points last season and will be playing in the UEFA Europa League next season. This will be a tremendous opportunity for Layun to shine and it should be interesting to see what role he has on his new team.
