2018 FIFA World Cup: Peru officially eliminated with loss to France
Peru is a team that has displayed real grit and talent in its two games in the 2018 FIFA World Cup so far. In its first game it was unlucky to fall to Denmark and this Thursday it was unlucky again in its narrow 1-0 loss to France.
Les Bleus are one of the title favorites, but definitely did not play like it against La Blanqauirroja. Both teams finished with about the same amount of shots, but Ricardo Gareca’s side had more possession and really controlled the game.
Los Incas seemed to be rapidly attacking Hugo Lloris’ net, but came away with nothing to show for it after the final whistle. The defense and goalkeeper Pedro Gallese were solid and very tough to break down for one of the most imposing attacking forces in the tournament.
Peru played with pride against France and Denmark, but is now officially eliminated from the World Cup. The South American side will at least look to finish the tournament with a win as it has not won a World Cup game since 1978.
This was Peru’s first World Cup since 1982 and it was short-lived, but the road to the World Cup was a success and the product on the field was nothing short of astonishing.
