2018 FIFA World Cup: Argentina can decide its own fate in final game
This Friday, July 22, Nigeria and Iceland faced off for their second games in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The result of the encounter was crucial to Argentina’s hopes of qualifying to the knockout stage after La Albiceleste’s pitiful 3-0 loss to Croatia.
Luckily for Lionel Messi and company, Nigeria came out on top with a 2-0 win against the Nordic side, which means that Argentina can decide its own fate in their final match of the competition.
The South American side will face off against the Super Eagles in its final match and the winner will advance to the knockout stage along with Croatia, who has already secured its spot in the next round.

There is still an odd chance that Iceland can go through with a high-scoring victory against Croatia, but it seems highly unlikely. The second-place spot out of Group D will most likely be decided in that clash between Argentina and Nigeria, which should prove to be a very hard-fought encounter.
Jorge Sampaoli’s team needed luck to even get to this World Cup and will now need to rely on it again to advance to the round of 16 in the global competition.
