2018 FIFA World Cup: “Chicharito” had an underrated performance against Germany
Hirving Lozano, Hector Herrera, Jesus Gallardo and Miguel Layun, those are some of the players that are being given the most credit for Mexico’s shocking 1-0 win against Germany. The whole team really played amazingly against the European giants on that fateful day, but one player that has not been given much credit is Javier Hernandez.
“Chicharito” played a very important role in El Tri’s win and you could even argue that the result would not have been possible without him. Hernandez did provide the assist to Hirving Lozano’s goal and it was a very nice pass that is usually not characteristic of his play.
The Guadalajara native played a different role than his usual poacher role as he even seemed like a target man at times. “Chicharito” had great distribution, tremendous holdup play and went toe to toe against one of the best defenses in the world made up by Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng in the centre-back slots.

Hernandez finished the game with more fouls and clearances than shots and was really a team player for Juan Carlos Osorio’s side. The 30-year-old was not the most flashy player this past Sunday, but if he can play like he did against Germany in future games, it can ensure success for the national team.
