Liga MX: Pumas UNAM has a busy draft ahead of Apertura 2018
Pumas UNAM was one of the busiest teams in the Liga MX draft ahead of the Apertura 2018 as it added six players and dealt away with six players as well. Los Felinos had a decent Clausura 2018, finishing in seventh place, but were clearly far from being legitimate title contenders.
David Patino and the front office acted upon this in the draft with six signings that should help the team next season. Andres Iniestra, a 22-year-old midfielder also returned from loan to the Mexico City side from Venados de Merida. The six signings that were made by Pumas UNAM were Miguel Fraga from Atlas, Martin Rodriguez and Rosario Cota from Cruz Azul, Ignacio Malcorra and Juan Iturbe from Club Tijuana and Carlos Gonzalez from Necaxa.
The least enticing signing by far was Rosario Cota, a 22-year-old midfielder, who is a youth product of Cruz Azul and had been with Los Celestes since 2015. The other player that was brought over from Cruz Azul, Martin Rodriguez should prove to be an impactful player at Pumas UNAM. The 23-year-old Chilean winger has scored four goals in three Liga MX tournaments and has many intriguing aspects to his game. Rodriguez is quick and very skillful making him a threat going forward against Liga MX defense.
A similar player to him is Juan Iturbe, although the Paraguayan is yet to showcase his potential in the Liga MX. Ignacio Malcorra can also play as a winger but is much more technical with his immense vision that makes him arguably one of the top playmakers in the league. Miguel Fraga should be a solid player in between the sticks and his addition certainly raises questions about Alfredo Saldivar’s role on the team. Carlos Gonzalez scored nine goals last season with Necaxa and should be a solid replacement for the departed Nicolas Castillo
Centro delantero de excelente técnica individual, estupendo golpeo de balón, contundente en el juego aéreo y de gran olfato goleador.

The players that have left Pumas UNAM along with Castillo are Jesus Gallardo, Bernabe Magana, Josecarlos Van Rankin, Luis Fuentes and Erick Torres. The most notable departure is Nicolas Castillo as he tries to become a prominent player in Europe with Benfica.
Jesus Gallardo is also a significant loss, but the team has already signed three skillful wingers that can take his place in the team.
