Liga MX: Jesus Gallardo officialized as Monterrey’s newest signing
This Tuesday, May 29, Jesus Gallardo was officially presented as Monterrey’s newest signing ahead of the Apertura 2018 season. The signing had been confirmed by ESPN’S John Sutcliffe a few weeks ago and was finally officialized by Los Rayados.
Gallardo had spent his entire career with Pumas UNAM and has appearances with the Mexico City club dating back to the Apertura 2014 tournament. The 23-year-old had a decent Clausura 2018 season with Pumas UNAM racking up three goals and three assists.
Under Juan Carlos Osorio’s reign of the Mexico national team, Gallardo has been called up consistently and will likely go to Russia this Summer. This was a smart buy for Monterrey ahead of the World Cup as the Tabasco native’s stock will surely rise after the global competition.
Gallardo still has plenty of potential at 23 years old and is a very versatile player that can play in multiple positions across the field. With Pumas UNAM, the Mexico international was mainly used as a winger but he can also play as a midfielder and fullback as well.

Gallardo excels at the physical aspects of the game as he has decent speed and is good in the air as well. His technical abilities still need some refining, but he can still be a player that at the very least adds plenty of depth to Monterrey.
