Liga MX: The youngest player on the field stood out in the Clausura 2018 final
The first-leg of the Liga MX Clausura 2018 final between Santos Laguna and Toluca was played this Thursday, May 17. There were several experienced players on the field as well as a few players that were participating in the most important game of their young careers.
Among those players was Santos Laguna’ fullback Jesus Angulo, who was the youngest player on the pitch at just 20 years old. The Sinaloa native played in just one regular season game this semester, but earned Robert Siboldi’s trust and is now playing over Jorge Villafana in the left-back role.
Los Guerreros came away with a 2-1 win against Los Diablos Rojos on Thursday night thanks to goals by Djaniny Tavares and Julio Furch. Other players like Brian Lozano and the young Jesus Angulo also played a vital role in Los Laguneros’ crucial victory.
Angulo was arguably Robert Siboldi’s best defender on the day as he finished the game with five tackles, four interceptions and four clearances. The 20-year-old fullback also had a key pass, 44 accurate passes and four successful dribbles from four attempts throughout the 90 minutes.
The second-leg of this series will be a tough task for Jesus Angulo and Santos Laguna, but if he can stay consistent he will increase Los Guerreros’ chances of adding another league title.
