Liga MX: Gibran Lajud linked to Chivas, but is it time for Miguel Jimenez to step up?
Chivas de Guadalajara just lost its star goalkeeper Rodolfo Cota, who had been one of the best shot-stoppers in the Liga MX for over a year now. Cota was late to the party and just started to receive recognition for his performances at 30 years old.
The Mexican keeper had lifted five championships with Los Rojiblancos, but was just announced as Leon’s newest signing. Now the question is who will replace Cota, but it is not an easy one with very limited Mexican options out there for Chivas.

It was rumored that Hugo Gonzalez might head to Guadalajara in a deal involving Rodolfo Pizzaro, but it now seems that Gonzalez will join Necaxa in a trade involving Marcelo Barovero. You could say that the best Mexican goalkeeper in the Liga MX this season was Club Tijuana’s Gibran Lajud.
The young goalkeeper was crucial for Xolos and their playoff run and is naturally now being linked to Chivas. The problem is that Club Tijuana’s asking price for Lajud may be high, especially if it involves a deal with Chivas de Guadalajara.
In fact, any Mexican goalkeeper in the Liga MX may be very expensive due to Chivas’ current necessities without Rodolfo Cota. Now, it may be time for backup goalkeeper Miguel Jimenez to inherit the torch and become the starting goalkeeper for Matias Almeyda.

“El Guacho” is not really young at 28 years old and led Chivas to a Copa MX title in the Clausura 2017. Jimenez played the entire Copa MX in that season as a starter and stopped three penalties in the final against Monarcas Morelia.
Jimenez seems more than ready to step up for the role at this stage of his career and he also has a decent backup, “Tono” Rodriguez if something goes wrong.
