Liga MX: Are Chivas dismantling their championship team?
Chivas de Guadalajara won the Clausura 2017 tournament about a year ago and still have many of the same players that lifted that title.
A lot of things have changed in Guadalajara since that title, Chivas has not made the playoffs since tasting the glory. El Rebano Sagrado had a disgraceful 17th-place finish in the Clausura 2018 and the franchise may be taking a different route.
The only confirmed transfer so far is Oswaldo Alanis to La Liga team Getafe, but many other changes could be coming. The strongest rumor at the moment is Rodolfo Pizarro moving to Europe or staying in Mexico with Monterrey.
The reported sum for Pizarro is a hefty 16 million dollars and Alan Pulido is also rumored to be on his way to La Sultana del Norte or Cruz Azul. Monterrey recently split with Antonio Mohamed and his replacement could be Matias Almeyda.
It is hard to imagine that Almeyda will miss out on managing Chivas in the Club World Cup, but a move to a team like Monterrey or potentially the Mexico national team could be an attractive offer. Not only is the manager linked with a move away from the club but so is the team captain Jair Pereira.
Pereira is rumored to be joining Rafael Puente Jr. in Queretaro along with Edwin Hernandez and Orbelin Pineda. Pineda is also linked with Tigres UANL in a deal that would bring Jorge Torres Nilo and Jesus Duenas to Los Rojiblancos. Other players like Angel Zaldivar and Rodolfo Cota could also be heading out of the club this offseason.
An end of an era is approaching in La Perla Tapatia and it will shape the identity of the team in the coming years. This could either be a change for the better in Guadalajara or an unproductive attempt that will bring much of the same that has been seen in the last two seasons.
Orbelin Pineda se encuentra en la lista de pretendientes por parte de los Tigres a cambio de Jorge Torres Nilo.
