Liga MX: Carlos Salcido adds CCL title to extensive list of accolades
Chivas de Guadalajara just won their first international title since 1962 by defeating Toronto FC in the 2018 CONCACAF Champions League final. The oldest player on the pitch during this fateful game was 38-year-old Carlos Salcido, who was playing to try and get his first-ever CONCACAF Champions League trophy.
Salcido started the match, played 55 minutes and came away with the 13th title in his illustrious playing career. The Jalisco native started his extensive career back in 2000 with Gallos de Aguascalientes and found immediate success as he won an Ascenso MX title with the team. The Mexican centre-back’s first notable trophy came in 2007, overseas with PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Eredivisie.
The former Mexico international enjoyed success in Holland as PSV won the Eredivisie title again in the 2007-2008 season and inclusively won the Johan Cruyff Shield in 2008. Salcido came back to Mexico from his spell in Europe in 2011 and came back to win more titles.
¡EL ADIOS! 😢
Si Chivas no es campeón de la Concacaf, Carlos Salcido diria adios a las canchas. Si Chivas gana se retiraria despues del mundial de clubes 🙌 pic.twitter.com/P8PZJFxX9s

The experienced defender won the Apertura 2011 trophy with Tigres UANL and the CONCACAF Gold Cup with the Mexico national team in the same year. In 2012, the Jalisco native enjoyed another title with El Tri as he was part of the team that won the Summer Olympics gold medal in London.
Salcido then enjoyed his first Copa MX title in the Clausura 2014 with Tigres UANL then went on to win another Copa MX title with his hometown team, Chivas de Guadalajara in the Apertura 2015. The veteran midfielder and defender has won four more titles with Chivas de Guadalajara since that Copa MX trophy in 2015.
This includes a Supercopa MX in 2016, the Copa MX and Liga MX in the Clausura 2017 and the recent CONCACAF Champions League against Toronto FC. Salcido will now play in his first FIFA Club World Cup and will try and make history with his hometown team in that competition.
