Three games to watch in Week 11 of the Liga MX Clausura 2018
The Liga MX season is starting to take shape as we are now getting a much better understanding of what teams will fight for playoff spots. Week 11 of the Liga MX Clausura 2018 features many promising matchups and here are three to keep an eye on this weekend.
Lobos BUAP vs Chivas de Guadalajara – Saturday, March 10, 2018 (3:00 PM PST/ 5:00 PM CT/ 6:00 PM EST)
This has potential to be a very exciting and high-scoring game as both teams have struggled massively defensively this season. Lobos BUAP has allowed a league-high 21 goals in this Clausura 2018 while Chivas has conceded 16 goals, which is the fourth highest this season. It will also not help that Matias Almeyda will be without fullback Jesus “Chapito” Sanchez for the rest of the tournament. Both attacks have some dangerous players like Julian Quinones for La Manada and Rodolfo Pizarro for Los Rojiblancos. Both teams are urgent to get the three points from the game, Chivas currently in 16th and Lobos currently in 17th and should provide an entertaining encounter.
Pumas UNAM vs Toluca – Sunday, March 11, 2018 (10:00 AM PST/ 12:00 PM CT/ 1:00 PM EST)
Pumas UNAM has not won in its last four games while Toluca is currently on a three-game winning streak and has only allowed a goal in this run of form. The standouts on both teams are in the attack with Nicolas Castillo and Matias Alustiza on Pumas and Fernando Uribe and Rubens Sambueza for Toluca. Both teams are accustomed to playing at this time of day on Sundays and are not far from each other geographically, which makes it harder to pick a winner. Los Felinos will have the home-field advantage but Toluca is in much better form but it seems that both sides will be in the playoff mix come the end of the regular season.

Santos Laguna vs Monterrey – Sunday, March 11, 2018 (4:00 PM PST/ 6:00 CT/ 7:00 PM EST)
The best Northern Mexican side this season has not been Tigres UANL or Monterrey but rather Santos Laguna, who is currently in first place with 20 points. Los Guerreros have been led by the efforts of Djaniny Tavares, who has scored 12 goals in 10 games but also have a very well-balanced squad. The defense is vital to the team’s success as well with players like Nestor Araujo and Carlos Izquierdoz. The team from Torreon will have a very tough task this weekend against Monterrey, who was phenomenal in the Apertura 2017 but is currently not in the best form. Los Rayados are coming off a surprising 3-1 loss against Puebla at home but can defeat any Liga MX team on their day. Antonio Mohamed still has one of the more talented rosters in the league with players like Aviles Hurtado, Dorlan Pabon and Rogelio Funes Mori. This should prove to be one of the more hard-fought and exciting clashes in the Liga MX this weekend and could potentially have a lot of goals in it.
