Was Matias Alustiza the best signing in the Liga MX this transfer window?
Pumas UNAM has had a drastic change for the better from the Apertura 2017 to the Clausura 2018 as the Mexico City team is currently topping the Liga MX with 14 points. In the Apertura 2017, Los Capitalinos finished dead last and there really was not a plethora of signings that were brought in.
The manager did change as David Patino has been in charge of the club since the latter stages of last season. The players that have been brought in have made a monumental difference but the one that has really stood out so far has been Matias Alustiza.
Pumas UNAM has won its last two games in the Liga MX and Nicolas Castillo did not score in either game. However, Matias Alustiza did score in both games and has relieved some of the weight that Castillo had to carry in previous tournaments.
There used to be a heavy reliance on Castillo before the arrival of Alustiza that was detrimental to the team. Los Universitarios can now count on a reliable veteran in “El Chavo” that has been a consistent goalscorer in Mexico for several years now.

This has arguably made all the difference for Pumas UNAM this year and the team now seems like a shoe-in to make the playoffs. The partnership of Alustiza and Castillo works to perfection and is proving to be one of the best in the league.
Pumas UNAM is coming off a huge 2-1 win against Monarcas Morelia away from home and had an impressive 2-0 win versus Tigres UANL before that. The Mexico City side will look to keep it going in their next two games as it will face Veracruz at home this Wednesday and Xolos in Tijuana this Saturday.
