Christian Stuani nets brace to lead Girona past Athletic Bilbao
31-year-old striker Christian Stuani has been living one of the best seasons of his extensive career. The Uruguayan forward lead Girona to an impressive 2-0 victory against Athletic Bilbao in Matchday 22 of La Liga.
Stuani scored two goals past the Basque side and could have inclusively had a hat-trick had a header not hit the crossbar in the second half. The experienced striker’s first goal was from the penalty spot in the early minutes of the game to give Girona a 1-0 lead.
Stuani’s second goal came off a potent header off a cross by Portu that found the back of Iago Herrerin’s net. The Uruguayan played 82 minutes and finished the game with four total shots, a successful dribble and nine of 21 duels won.
Stuani is now up to 12 goals in 19 games this season and has been massively exceeding expectations just like his team. Girona is now in ninth place with 31 points in La Liga as Stuani will look to continue his form heading into the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
