Match Recap: Olimpia 1-0 Atletico Junior 2018 Copa Libertadores
This Thursday, Paraguayan club Olimpia hosted Colombian team Atletico Junior at the Estadio Defensores del Charco for the first leg of a second round 2018 Copa Libertadores matchup. The match was set to be very exciting and intense and Olimpia did use the home-field advantage and came away with a vital 1-0 win.
El Decano was the much better team in the match as it had several scoring opportunities in the encounter while Junior had less than a handful. The decisive goal in the match came in the 37th minute with a header by the experienced Roque Santa Cruz of a pin-point cross by Mauricio Cuero.
Cuero was clearly one of the better players on the pitch during his playing time as he took risks and was generating play for the home side. The defense was also immense for Olimpia, especially fullback Farid Diaz and centre-back Juan Patino, who combined for 10 clearances and six interceptions in the match.

Junior failed to be exciting and take risks in the game even with a dangerous attack featuring Colombia international Yimmi Chara. This is a disastrous start for new manager Alexis Mendoza and the team from Barranquilla will now try and turn it around in the second leg.
