Match Recap: Deportivo Tachira 2-3 Independiente Santa Fe 2018 Copa Libertadores
This Thursday, Venezuelan team Deportivo Tachira hosted Colombian team Santa Fe at the Estadio Polideportivo de Pueblo Nuevo for the first leg of a second round 2018 Copa Libertadores matchup. The game proved to be one of the more exciting encounters in this second round of the Libertadores filled with goals as Santa Fe took home a 3-2 win.
Santa Fe’s reliable goalscorer Wilson Morelo opened the score early in just the seventh minute of the match. But just three minutes later the home team tied the match with a goal by Venezuelan winger Manuel Granados.

Tachira stayed dangerous and kept the momentum going with a goal by Sergio Almiron in the 22nd minute. Los Cardenales pushed forward and had a few clear scoring opportunities before tying the match in the 31st minute with a goal by defender William Tesillo.
The first half finished in a very exciting 2-2 draw with Deportivo Tachira surprising the more talented Colombian side. Santa Fe was the favorite heading into the game and had a golden opportunity to get a lead in the 51st minute with a penalty.
Wilson Morelo stepped up to take the penalty, his shot was saved by Beycker Velazquez but Morelo still managed to get the decisive goal off the rebound. That goal would give Santa Fe the win and the lead heading into the second leg of this matchup in Bogota.

After the goal, Gregorio Perez’s side managed to keep the lead with its solid back line that was one of the best in Liga Aguila last year. Santa Fe should be able to maintain this lead or even increase in the second leg and advance to the next round of the competition.
