Monarcas Morelia sign Colombian striker Jefferson Duque
This Tuesday, Monaracas Morelia officially announced the signing of 30-year-old Colombian striker Jefferson Duque. The deal is a loan deal for the rest of the Liga MX Clausura 2018 tournament from Atlas and could benefit La Monarquia with not much risk involved.
In Colombia, Duque has been a renowned goalscorer with Atletico Nacional and Deportivo Cali but he is yet to make his mark in Mexico. The 30-year-old started his professional career in 2011 with Leones in Colombia, then made his big move to Atletico Nacional in 2012.
From 2012-2015, Duque scored 34 goals for Los Verdolagas in league play and then made his move to Mexico with Atlas. The Medellin native did not really work out for Los Rojinegros with just five goals in 23 appearances in the Liga MX from 2015-2017.

Duque spent 2017 with Deportivo Cali and he found his groove back again with 16 goals in 40 appearances in the Liga Aguila. The Colombian striker will now try to break out in the Liga MX but it is unclear if he will get enough playing time to prove himself.
Monarcas Morelia do already have some talented strikers like Raul Ruidiaz and Angel Sepulveda and Duque might have just been added for insurance for any injuries that may occur. However, Sepulveda is currently playing out wide and there is not really a pure number nine at Monarcas Morelia to aid Ruidiaz.
There is not much risk involved in this signing and if Duque can get to the form he has shown in Colombia it could greatly benefit the team. If not, Duque could simply add depth to Roberto Hernandez’s side that should be fighting for a playoff spot throughout this season.
