Marcelo Diaz emerges as the hero and villain as Pumas draw with Lobos BUAP
This Saturday, Lobos BUAP hosted Pumas UNAM at the Estadio Universitario BUAP for a game in the fourth round of matches in the Liga MX Clausura 2018. Going into the game Pumas seemed like the favorite against the team from Puebla but it turned out to be a very entertaining match.
La Manada got an early lead in the sixth minute of the encounter as a header by Cesar Cercado off a corner kick by Gabriel Cortez found the back of Alfredo Saldivar’s net. Alfredo Saldivar would be flawless after conceding that goal with eight total saves in the 90 minutes.

The Mexico City team managed to bring it back before the end of the first half with a stunning free-kick goal by Marcelo Diaz in the 28th minute. The game became a back and forth encounter with no clear winner in sight after the Chilean’s spectacular effort.
In the 60th minute, Pumas had a tremendous chance to get a lead in the match with a penalty for Los Felinos. Nicolas Castillo was the chosen one to take the decisive penalty and he scored but his fellow countryman, Marcelo Diaz ran into the area before Castillo struck the ball and the penalty would be retaken.
On the second attempt, Castillo sailed the ball over Jorge Villalpando’s net and the game remained level. Lobos was the more dangerous team towards the end of the match but Alfredo Saldivar and the finishing ability by the Rafael Puente’s players denied La Manada from obtaining the win.
