Puebla had a very busy day this Monday as the club signed two players and finished up a deal involving another. La Franja announced that the deal to sign Colombian forward Omar Fernandez from Peruvian team Melgar was wrapped up and he is now available to play. The team inclusively mentioned that Fernandez would be available to play this Tuesday when Puebla plays Cruz Azul in the Copa MX.

Los Camoteros also announced the additions of Uruguayan goalkeeper Nicolas Vikonis from Colombian team Millonarios and Brazilian Fullback Matheus Ribeiro from Brazilian team Santos. Ribeiro is an addition that makes a lot of sense as Enrique Meza is currently using Luis Venegas at the right back slot. Ribeiro is a natural right back that can add a lot to the attack as well as the defense while Venegas is a natural centre-back and usually stays back.
The addition of Nicolas Vikonis at first glance may not make a lot of sense with an already experienced goalkeeper in Moises Munoz at Puebla. Munoz, 37, is starting to show his age as he can be very inconsistent at times, proven in Puebla’s Clausura 2018 season-opener against Tigres UANL.

Vikonis, 33, is younger but still has a wealth of experience to offer as he started his professional career back in 2001 and has played with eight teams since then. The Uruguayan keeper is clearly getting better as his career progresses coming off the most successful stint of his career with Millonarios in Colombia.
Vikonis played with Los Embajadores from 2015-2017 and recently helped the team from Bogota win a Liga Aguila title last year. The 33-year-old will fight for a starting role on La Franja and it would not be surprising to see him get some starts over Moises Munoz as the tournament progresses.
