The Liga MX Clausura 2018 is now fully underway and there have already been some surprising results and stellar individual performances. This weekend there are some matchups that seem promising like Club America hosting Pachuca at the Estadio Azteca and Toluca facing Leon away from home. Here are five players to keep an eye on during this second round of matches in the Liga MX Clausura 2018.
“El Messi” was brilliant in Puebla’s 2-1 win against the current champions Tigres UANL in week 1. The Mexican midfielder scored the goal that led to La Franja’s surprising victory to start off the new season and put in a tremendous shift overall. This Friday, Los Camoteros visit the Estadio Morelos to take on Monarcas Morelia and it will be interesting to see how Acuna performs.
Xolos’ revelation of the Apertura 2017 campaign, only received 10 minutes off the bench in Club Tijuana’s scoreless draw to open up the season. This was due to an injury but Bou is set to start against Necaxa this Friday in the Aztec Canine’s first home game. The Argentine striker scored seven goals in the Apertura 2017 and was easily the border city side’s best player. Necaxa could be missing Igor Lichnovsky in the defense due to an ankle injury and his absence does increase Bou’s chancing of shining in this match.
Boselli was the joint top-scorer in the Liga MX Apertura 2017 with 11 regular season goals and is off to a marvelous start to his Clausura 2018 campaign. The Leon captain scored in Los Esmeraldas’ 2-1 win against Atlas to start off the season and inclusively scored the lone goal in La Fiera’s 1-0 win against Merida in the Copa MX this past Tuesday. Leon will host Toluca, who are coming from an unimpressive 1-1 draw against Chivas de Guadalajara at home and the Argentine striker should be able to make an impact in this game.

The standout player from the first round of matches in the Clausura 2018 had to be Djaniny Tavares. The Cape Verdean striker was amazing as he got himself a hat-trick in Santos Laguna’s 4-2 win against Lobos BUAP. Djaniny showed effort and grit in that game and if he can keep that going this season he should finish among the top scorers in the league. The African forward has been an inconsitent in his tenure with Los Guerreros but is off to a brilliant start in the Clausura 2018. It Should be interesting to see what Tavares can do as an encore against the Apertura 2017 champions Tigres UANL at the Estadio Universitario.
The Peruvian goalkeeper kept a clean sheet in Veracruz’s scoreless draw against Necaxa to start off the new tournament. Gallese has received a lot more attention ever since his heroics for Peru in the World Cup qualifiers and should be especially interesting to keep track of in this Clausura 2018 ahead of the World Cup. Veracruz has the seemingly impossible task to evade relegation this season as well and will be facing Monterrey this Sunday. This game should be a very tough one for Los Tiburones Rojos and Gallese will need to be in top form in order for his team to get a favorable result.
