This Friday, Atletico Nacional announced on Twitter that midfielder Giovanni Moreno was making his return to the Colombian club.

Moreno had played with Los Verdolagas from 2008-2010, where he scored 44 goals in 81 appearances. Before his stint with Nacional, the Colombia international did start his career with Envigado and after his stint El Verde, he played with Argentine team, Racing Club and more recently Shanghai Shenhua in China.

Moreno had been with the Chinese club since 2012 and had already become a prominent figure with 50 goals in 140 appearances and serving as the club captain as well. 2017 was a great year for the 6-foot-3 midfielder as he scored 15 goals in 26 appearances in the Chinese Super League and led his team to a 2017 Chinese FA Cup title. Atletico Nacional is linked to another former player in Dorlan Pabon and it will be interesting to see if he can rejoin the club as well.
Nacional is clearly a favorite to win the league under the leadership of new manager Jorge Almiron and will be aiming for a strong showing in the Copa Libertadores. Moreno is a creator from an attacking midfield spot and can also be extremely skillful and precise with the ball at his feet. If Dayro Moreno is to stay with the team from Medellin he and Gio should form quite a fearful attack in both the Liga Aguila and Copa Libertadores.
