Leon has been very quiet this offseason as Cecchini will be La Fiera’s first official signing ahead of the Clausura 2018. Los Esmeraldas had a very successful Apertura 2017 tournament finishing in seventh place after a very slow start to the season with manager Javier Torrente. Gustavo Diaz took over in week 8 and led Los Panzas Verdes to the quarterfinal stage of the competition, where the team was knocked out by the eventual champions Tigres UANL.
Cecchini will add depth to the midfield as he is known for playing a deeper defensive role in the heart of the pitch. Leon’s midfield already has players like Alexander Mejia, Luis Montes and Jose Rodriguez and the Argentine could potentially fight for a starting role.

The 21-year-old started his career with Banfield in 2013, the same club where players like James Rodriguez, Javier Zanetti and Mauro Camoranesi have played. Cecchini stayed with Banfield up until this year before making the leap to European football with Malaga in Spain.
The Argentinian midfielder’s playing time with the Albicelestes was very limited and this move could help him regain his form that led him to Europe in the first place.
